Once again, the Three Apothecaries provided the “champ gauche” interlude at the 28th European Association of Hospital Pharmacy (EAHP) congress, this year in beautiful Bordeaux. We hosted 2 European guests who shared their passions for their Hospital Pharmacy careers and the medicines stories within them.
Roberto Frontini , former EAHP President 2009-15, told the very sad story about the death of a friend due to Heparin Induced Thromobocytopenia , which inspired his interest in pharmacovigilance. Beatriz Torroba , Hospital Pharmacy Specialist Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Maranon Madrid Spain, explained how the incorrect prescribing of the chemotherapy agent Docetaxel by a Doctor happily led to her meeting her now husband!
Where there are Medicines there are always stories…….
We were ably supported by Apothecaries #4, Clare Howard, who herself delivered a keynote on reducing problematic polypharmacy - using Action Learning Sets to optimize sustainable medicines use, and #5 Jonathan Underhill EAHP Scientific Committee member.
Much local wine was consumed before, and after, the making of this Live and Undiluted Aural Apothecary Podcast show and we are hopeful that we might be invited back for the next EAHP congress in Copenhagen……
